The third season of SMTM saw a number of prominent Korean hip hop figures' participation including Tablo of EPIK HIGH, Masta Wu, The Quiett and San E among others. Although they're not popular in the mainstream, they have a niche following with 3 albums. Hip hop trio Soul Dive won the competition under MC Meta. The show has grown in popularity since the first season aired in 2012 to season 9 in 2020, and it is credited with increasing the South Korean public's interest in hip hop.īack in July, it was announced that Mnet would be accepting audition tapes for the ninth season of the much anticipated hip hop survival show Show Me The Money. All the other teams were more cohesive in their roster choices so this mess with Team JM was expected.Show Me The Money is a South Korean rap competition TV show that airs on Mnet. A bit surprised that they went with the autotune for OLNL (iirc it was never used before in a team stage) while YunB (who uses the effect in his own songs) didn't use it. I have no strong opinions between OLNL and YunB, but they definitely stood out as the "weakest" there. Odee turned out great, nothing much can be said there. It's obvious that he would have done much better on Team VMC or Team Code x Palo (would count The Q for his boom bap beats but him and Changmo wanted an exclusive trap theme for their team). Just that Swings has been courting him for long and that Team JM would have ended up with only 3 rappers had he not joined. Personally, I've never seen him as a good fit for Swings x Giriboy. If you still think he is an overhyped rapper it just shows how clueless you are on the Korean hiphop scene as well as Nafla's discography. Besides, his delivery, tone, and inflection was actually really good for the beat itself and he carried himself remarkably. He rushed the beat for just a split second there, nothing major, and he saved himself pretty well. Nafla isn't just a boom bap rapper for example, he has already shown he can rap really well on other kinds of beats (though he did tell NunReacts that he has always practised more for boom bap than the new wave style). So, I understand where the criticism comes from. Now, I don't think any of them did bad at all, but perhaps the beat just wasn't a really good fit for them bar Odee perhaps. I feel like Giriboy didn't take his team into consideration well.
